About SmartCommute

SmartCommute is a free, independently built website for checking when your bus actually arrives in Singapore. No app store download, no account, no sign-up form — you open the page and the information is there.

Why it exists

Singapore's public transport network is one of the best in the world, and the Land Transport Authority publishes an excellent open data feed to go with it. What was missing, for us, was something in between: a page that loads instantly on a phone at a bus stop, tells you the three next arrivals, and does not make you tap through a launch screen, a permissions wizard and an ad interstitial to get there.

So we built one. SmartCommute started as a personal tool for a daily commute and grew into a public site covering every one of Singapore's roughly 5,000 bus stops and every scheduled bus service. The design goal has stayed the same throughout: the fastest possible path from "I am standing at a bus stop" to "my bus is 4 minutes away."

What you can do here

• Find the nearest stops. One tap uses your device's location to list the five closest bus stops, with walking distance, ranked nearest first.
• Search any stop. Type a stop name, a road name or a five-digit stop code and get live arrivals. The search matches partial words across all three fields, so "bedok int" finds Bedok Interchange.
• Look up a whole route. Enter a bus service number to see every stop it serves in both directions, in sequence, with first and last bus timings.
• Bookmark your regulars. Save the stops you use daily. They are stored in your own browser, so they persist without an account.
• Check service alerts. Live MRT disruption and bus diversion notices, so you find out before you are already on the platform.
• Read the guides. Written explainers on fares, concession cards, night buses, MRT lines and airport connections — the questions the raw data does not answer.

Where the data comes from

Every piece of transport information on this site originates from LTA DataMall, the Land Transport Authority's official open data platform. Arrival estimates come from the live BusArrival feed, which is derived from actual bus telemetry rather than a printed timetable — which is why the numbers shift as you watch them.

Bus stop records are refreshed twice a month and full route data is resynchronised monthly, both on automated schedules, so new stops and route changes flow through without manual intervention. Arrival times are never cached: each request goes to the live feed.

SmartCommute is not affiliated with the Land Transport Authority or with any bus operator. We are a consumer of their public data, the same as any other developer, and we are grateful the feed exists.

How it stays free

Hosting, the domain and the data pipeline cost money to run. We cover that with a small number of ads placed on our written guides. We deliberately keep advertising off the bus arrival screens, the stop search and the nearest-stop results — those are the pages you use when you are in a hurry, and cluttering them would defeat the purpose of the site.
