Install SmartCommute
Last updated: 10 August 2026
SmartCommute can be added to your home screen and used exactly like an app — full screen, no address bar, its own icon. There is nothing to download from an app store, no account to create, and it takes up a negligible amount of space.
What you get
- Opens instantly, full screen. One tap from your home screen straight to the arrivals search — no browser, no address bar, no tab hunting.
- Jump straight to what you need. Press and hold the icon for shortcuts to the nearest-stop finder, the route finder and service alerts.
- Your bookmarks come with it. Saved stops stay exactly where they were.
- It still works with a bad signal. Pages you have already visited will open even when the connection drops — though live arrival times, naturally, need a connection to be live.
How to install it
iPhone and iPad
- Open smartcommutesg.com in Safari. This does not work in Chrome on iOS.
- Tap the Share button — the square with an arrow pointing up.
- Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add. The icon appears on your home screen.
Android
- Open the site in Chrome.
- Tap the Install button above if it is showing. If it is not, tap the three-dot menu in the top right.
- Choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
- Confirm. The icon appears with your other apps.
Windows, Mac and Linux desktop
- Open the site in Chrome or Edge.
- Use the Install button above, or click the small install icon at the right hand end of the address bar.
- It opens in its own window and can be pinned to your taskbar, dock or Start menu like any other program.
Removing it
On a phone, press and hold the icon and choose to remove or uninstall it, exactly as you would with any app. On desktop, open it, then use the menu in its window to uninstall. Removing it does not affect using the site normally in a browser afterwards.
Common questions
Does it cost anything?
No. SmartCommute is free, and installing it does not change that. We cover running costs with a small number of ads on our written guides — never on the arrival screens.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and nothing to log into, installed or not. Your bookmarked stops are saved on your own device.
Will it track my location in the background?
No. Location is only ever requested at the moment you tap Locate Nearest Stop, and it is used to work out which stops are closest, then discarded. Installing changes nothing about this. See our privacy policy.
How much space does it use?
Very little — it is a fraction of the size of a typical app store download, because it is the website itself rather than a separate program.
Does it update?
Automatically, whenever you open it with a connection. There is nothing to keep updated manually.
Prefer not to install anything? That is completely fine — the site works the same way in any browser.
